I don't think so and Marelux already announced a specific housing for the R5 ii so I think Backscatter just got an early housing. The video doesn't look strikingly better than the R5. Also - Dpreview released both of their studio scenes (stills and video). As this is the video thread: https://www.dpreview.com/articles/4207856702/canon-eos-r5-ii-video-detail-levels-impress Compared to the R5 HQ or 8k, I can't see a difference. The Stills comparison looks sharper in the R5ii than the R5, but I have never looked at an image from my R5 and been like "I wish that was sharper", except when I (lens/shutter speed/dome/etc) made it less sharp. For fun - on the video comparison, compare the R5 ii to the R6ii at 4k 60p. 1
Davide DB Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Nauticam presented its housing for the Canon R5 II. Pre-orders are now open. https://www.nauticam.com/collections/mirrorless-il-camera-housings/products/na-r5ii-housing-for-canon-eos-r5ii-camera
Adventurer Posted August 24 Posted August 24 CANON R5 Mark II UNDERWATER HOUSING CHOICES Ikelite also somehow made an R5 Mark II Housing ready and takes pre-orders here: https://www.ikelite.com/products/underwater-housing-for-canon-eos-r5-mark-ii-mirrorless-camera they also have a video out, with MARELUX shows their Canon R5 Mark II Housing here: https://www.marelux.co/products/mx-r5ii-housing-for-canon-eos-r5ii-mirrorless-digital-camera And in Europe Hydronalin already lists it for pre-orders: https://www.hydronalin.eu/a-21106 INON has also confirmed that they will have an X-2 for Canon R5 Mark II Did not find this with INON yet, but with Hydronalin: https://www.hydronalin.eu/a-696525 Plenty of choices and price points for this camera underwater 😉 Not sure, if I want to upgrade from R6 Mark II - haha,.. but maybe others in the market find this helpful. 1
Davide DB Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Marelux housing USA price 3400 USD Europe price 4000 Euro Ouch!

I guess that is just the VAT (Value Added Tax) in Europe I suppose. In Europe advertising the net price without VAT is illegal. In the USA it is normal to advertise prices without VAT. Also noteworthy: If you import directly from the US, you will be requested to pay customs (small ammount around 5%). + on top of both IMPORT TAX (which basically is the VAT). I have been there and had to learn it the hard way. 2
DreiFish Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) Detailed review from Gerald Undone: + Dynamic range is class-leading in video (13.5 stops), better than A1 (12.9 stops) - Still no easy way to set white balance... Edited September 3 by DreiFish 2
jpiovano Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Just to sum up, so far and according to you, what is the main selling point of the R5m2 for underwater video compared to Z8, A1 or even R5c ?

Vs. Z8/z9 -- better ambient light custom white balance Vs. A1 - 8k60, 4k60 downsampled, in-camera raw Vs. R5C - better dynamic range is pretty much the only thing I can think of 1
Davide DB Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Prices of a used R5C keep falling and it becomes very appealing. Now there are a lot of "old" camera that are amazing video monsters. Few months and the OG A1 will fall under 4K€. Going back to Canon R5C, with the latest firmware upgrade, can do 8k 60p RAW with no external power and JUST the LP-E6P battery: https://www.canon.co.uk/press-centre/press-releases/2024/11/firmware-updates-add-extensive-new-functionalities-to-canon-professional-video-cameras/
