Juvenile Something?

I suspect that this is a juvenile of something, but I am not sure what.  With the surge, this is about the best that I could do.  It was in about 15 feet of water, at CoCoView Resort in Roatan, Honduras.   Thanks for any suggestions that you can offer.

Can anyone see this short video? When I try to view it, I don't see anything.  Is there something that I have done wrong?  It was saved in the *.mp4 format

Hi @SwiftFF5, The system is actually supposed to block video uploads now.  The concern is cost of storage when many videos get uploaded.  The best solution will be to upload externally, probably to Youtube and link it to the post.

 

Don't know why it's not showing the video, but seeing as how it's not working I deleted the video from the post.  Let me know if you need assistance linking the video externally.

Oh, OK.  Sorry, I did not realize that you were not allowing videos now.  I don't have any good way to store it externally, though.

Well, I posted this to Youtube - unfortunately, it appears that they reduced the resolution, but perhaps it is still visible enough to ID the fish.  Thanks for the help:

I find that videos are less than ideal for ID purposes unless it's something obvious as the fish just wriggles around making it hard to compare to reference pics.  Having said that to me it looks like a dragonet of some type, possibly this, but could well be way off:

Since I only shoot video, that's all that I have.

One thing you might want to try is if you are editing your videos you might be better placed to get full resolution frame grabs which you could then crop a little and post as a JPEG.   I would guess that selecting a frame may be easier in a video editor.   Freeze framing the youtube video doesn't provide a particularly high resolution image.

Well I'm going to go in a different direction and say this is a juvenile Parrot fish..possibly Bucktooth, or a juvenile wrasse. Definitely not a Dragonet though. Check out the dorsal fin and movement. Dragonets move across the bottom at all times. Your little fella hovering above..

I was finally able to post my request, and so far have two replies saying that it is a "parrotfish of some kind, but too young to be sure which one"
