Better than nothing for sure! And sometime Focus peaking, underwater, just doesn't work as expected. 1
Elvandar Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Well, the functionality exist, so, if GoPro will make it avaible with official firmware or Labs firmware outside their macro lens use, I'd like to try it, to see firsthand if it's good. 2
Davide DB Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 Gopro labs software for GP13 is out. There are a couple of interesting additions for underwater shooting: Added DIVE=1 - optimizing the Hypersmooth stabilization for underwater. The water refractive index defaults to 1.335 (good for fresh and command salt water), if you know your area RI is significantly different DIVE=r where r can be 1.3 to 1.45 is supported. Added WARM=x and COOL=x to offset white balance. WARM is good to use with DIVE, so you can improve the red respond for deeper dives. https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/notes/ 3
hellhole Posted September 25 Posted September 25 ah... gopro 13 fireware v01.12 just launch.. now..if you put the lens attachment to 'Macro"... even without the macro lens... the focus peaking can be turn on! kool... not sure if it will affect any other things... if you are shooting in wide angle... with inon or aoi lens... give it a try... 3

Will check if they add the option also on the gopro 12 firmaware, I won't upgrade Edit: I checked the firmware note, but did not find the macro option, it is still on github? Its the official gp13 firmware update. Then you go to the "lens attachment" option. They allow you to "auto detect" or "Macro`. Choose 'Macro" then go to the video settings. Under the 'protune` portion. There is a "focus peaking' .. you can choose which color /auto/ off.

Quote Rear element is made from high refractive index glass lens to minimize whole size dramatically without sacrificing performance. No idea if this values apply to Domes source: https://www.downtownvisionnv.com/blog/the-refractive-index-explained Edited September 29 by Nando Diver

Useless just because they used it with the backscatter kit, and they suggest to zoom in the image, the inon g55 have a bigger magnification, and I use it without the zoom. By the way, seems like one more time, that it's a function bound to the go pro 13 only and their proprietary lens, just to sell more of the "new" GoPro 13 that is basically identical to the 10, 11 and 12 in the sensor and processor

Nando Diver Posted December 12 Posted December 12 (edited) Complete guide review for underwater video & Photo settings by Backscatter Quote The GoPro HERO 13 Black is the best camera from GoPro to date and is our favorite action camera. The GoPro HERO13 has upgraded battery life for longer shoots, super smooth image stabilization, and a suite of accessories making it a great option to capture 4K Ultra High Definition video clips underwater. The small size and simplistic operation of the GoPro makes it perfect for beginners looking to capture video underwater for the first time, or any diver looking to easily pick up high-quality video clips. source: Backscatter.com The backscatter should have included in their Guide the Gopro labs FW Edited December 12 by Nando Diver
Davide DB Posted December 12 Author Posted December 12 The Backscatter tutorial is as good as it gets for completeness and clarity of content but I totally disagree with ISO Auto and WB Auto. Those are a sure recipe for ruining all clips. I could agree that ISO auto would work in a few specific conditions: very bright day, shallow depth and cristal clear water. in all (more common) situations the tiny sensor will ramp up ISO to 1600 destroying everything. WB auto is a no go. BTW there are people here who are very experienced regarding video and also with GoPro. We have discussed it dozens of times here. What is the point of resetting the few established points? Ciao
Nando Diver Posted December 12 Posted December 12 I also dont use AUTO ISO, but i use a mixed of AutoWB and LockWB with different presets. Backscatter opinion about Auto ISO and Auto WB from 23m18s can be seen here
