I am searching for any feedbacks and/or advices concerning the use of canon 8-15 with a seafrogs housing.

In fact, it seems that seafrogs now allows to use Sony fullframe with canon 8-15 with either 6 and 8’´ dome ports V7.

Anyone has any feedback of this setup?

I don’t see other cameras in their port chart to use with this lens.

For APSC, unfortunately ,I still don’t see the tokina 10-17 in the APSC port chart…Someone already tried it?

Where did you see this?, I find Sea Frogs documentation for this hard to follow. It seems they have two different ports with built in extension for their plastic housings so don't really attempt to precisely position the lenses behind the dome. The citeria seems to be just make sure it doesn't vignette. I see they have extension rings listed now, but don't see them mentioned anywhere in their lens charts.

On the 8-15 on full frame - it's either 8mm circular of 15mm diagonal fisheye so unless you want circular fisheye you don't need a zoom gear and if you can use it at 15mm without vignetting it's probably as good as you can get in this system. On the 15mm fisheye, it's probably a bit short for your stated interest in big animals, particularly sharks and rays where you can't get quite that close.

Concerning the fov, I currently have a Sony 16mm with fisheye converter so is should be equivalent to 10mm fisheye on apsc.

So if i m not wrong, it should be the same fov as the tokina 10-17 at 10mm on apsc or the canon 8-15 at 15mm on full frame. Is it correct ?

I agree that i don’t need zoom gear for the canon because i would use it at 15mm.

I also have the Sony 10-18 with the 7’´ nauticam dome port and i used it just a couple of time because i prefer the fisheye fov.

I'm also looking into this. Several people have used the Tokina 10-17mm in their Salted Line housing, and there is even one zoom gear available for 3D printing that can be fitted in (see here: https://waterpixels.net/forums/topic/566-salted-line-tokina-10-17mm-zoom-gear/#comment-1560).

I'm currently thinking of buying a Tokina 10-17mm lens, only thing I'm not sure yet is about the fixed petal hood, which could pose a problem inside the dome port.

I use the Tokina 10-17mm, both in 140mm Nauticam and in 100mm Zen hemispherical glass domeports. The petal hood is small and does not make problems...

For comparison: with the Canon 8-15mm fisheye one can leave the detachable hood on the lens when using the 140mm domeport, but has to detach it when putting the lens into the 100mm domeport...

    I’m not sure on the current status, but a few years ago you could buy the Tokina 10-17 with or without the petal hood. I’ve had both and as @Architeuthis explains, the petals are tiny and unlikely to interfere.

    I’d read somewhere though that the lens was now discontinued.

    As far as I have understood the "shaving" issue, this was for photographers who (mis?)used the Tokina on FF cameras. The image circle of this lens seems to be bigger as required for APS-C and the shades came into the image and had to be removed when the lens was used on larger sensors...

    Yes, both Tokina 10-17mm and Canon 8-15mm fisheye lenses have been discontinued and must now be regarded as vintage lenses (RIP, two great UW lenses)...😐

    As an incorrigible optimist I hope that proper substitutes (and a 15-35mm FF fisheye) are on the way ...

    Thanks for the info. Indeed, we can only find them in the used market. I got lucky and seemed to have found one in great condition. Looking forward to try it underwater !

    Excellent. I hope you have fun with it.

    One small note of caution: the lens zoom ring on them has a tendency to detach! The ring seems to be held in place by sticky tape. So I’d suggest care is needed when fitting the port/housing zoom ring - and once in place, leave it on.

    If the lens zoom ring does detach, don’t panic! (Yes, easier said than done!). It’s not hard to reattach. I’ve had two copies of the lens and both have had the same issue. But with a little care, they were/are perfectly useable.

    A zoom ring held by tape ... wooooo 🤣 Ok, I'll come back here for advice when that happens, and before I start to panic !

    I've been happily playing with my new gear (Sony A6400, Tokina 10-17mm in a Saltedline housing with a 6 inches dome port) in the few dives I could do during the summer, here in Marseille. I invested in good strobes (Sea&Sea YS-D3 Duo) which I'm happy with, but less so with the housing. No flooding concerns, but the buttons are squishy and work only half the time (when they work at all...). Thus, I'm looking into getting a Nauticam housing plus a 100 zen dome port. Looking into the used market, but getting lost with port diameter sizes, extensions and the rest !
    Do you use your Tokina with a FF body or APS-C ?

    My wife is using the Tokina 10-17mm with Nauticam housing for Olympus EM1II plus Metabones 0,71x speedbooster with Zen DP100 (N120 version). In addition, she uses N85/N120 34,7mm Nauticm adapter plus 20mm N120 extension...

    => this is indeed a perfect and compact rig for UW WA...

    Regarding pedal hood: The hood is in the way, when the Tokina is used on FF cameras (not recommended, better use e.g. Canon 8-15mm with 1x glassless adapter then (if required)). FF people used to remove this hood then( not recommended, better use e.g. Canon 8-15mm with 1x glassless adapter then (if adapter is required)). A bigger image circle (compared to APSC) is required for FF sensor, the pedal hood already shows up...

    On Sony you need the 35.5mm N120 adapter plus the DP100T for N120.

    I wouldn't buy the DP100 new, I'd look for a 140mm port instead. But the DP100 show up used fairly often.

    Thanks. I find the A6400 tiny enough, and I choose it also because I use it topside and I like to play with (shallow) depth of field. The OM-1 seems amazing, but I really struggled with the lens openings available... even a F1.8 will be F3.6 equivalent... a most zoom options for Olympus are smaller than that. But, I agree that if only for UW use, it's hard to beat that system.

    I found a second hand N120 DP100 at a reasonable price, thus my interest.

    Thanks for the precise size of the adapter, now I just need to find that one AND a used Nauticam A6400 housing ...easy classic_laugh ....

    Which version of DP100? There are ones for the Tokina and the Canon with different extension built in. I believe you can use the Tokina version with a Canon if you add a 20mm extension.
