  1. Do you mean you can't set an output LUT on hdmi? Only in photos or also in video? Btw now all monitors have the possibility to load LUTs. If you can't do it via the housing, you have to set it on land. Of course you then work like this for the whole dive. I will change the title at the request of the op if necessary.
  2. Yes, at the same focal length is significantly more stable. Then I made some test on land and there's no noticeable difference between them. My speculation is the focal length it's part of the OIS algorithm. I don't see other reasons because you have to set it manually on manual lenses. The 14-42 mm @14 has a FOV of 94° while behind the WWL become 130° so I am tricking the algorithm somehow.
  3. I have the "MARK FORUM AS READ" button on all forums except the Critters identification one. I think that's because is the only forum with a subforum and for some obscure reason the app doesn't add that option. It's the only difference I see.
  4. Humm I have a mix of Tim and SwiftFF55 view. Maybe it depends on forum personal settings. IIRC happened something like this when we started the forum and we posted an how to... Let me check
  5. Welcome aboard!
  6. On newshooter they conied the term Nikomodo for the new Red Komodo 🙂
  7. This is the rule #1 when using an external monitor with any camera. Disabling audio channels on hdmi output gives me a zero lag on my GH5 and GH5M2. Same for my buddy with a GH5S. We both shot only video and i wish I could have a 1000 nits Shinobi I did not understand anything about the problem with Slog PP because I do not use Sony and I don't take photos 😇 Shooting video underwater without an external monitor severely limits the ability to edit the image composition and in some cases it is simply impossible to shoot certain footage without damaging the surroundings. This is the pure and simple reality.
  8. Has anyone designed or printed the back cap for Nauticam N85 ports? I've just lost one and it costs a lot. For now I am using a flexible silicone cap 🙂 Thanks
  9. Naive question For the past two years I have used almost exclusively the anonymous Lumix 14-42 mm lens coupled with the Nauticam WWL-1. Lately I have had a chance to reuse the Lumix 12-35 mm and 6" Nauticam dome and I noticed that the stabilization of my GH5M2 is much less effective with the 14-42 mm + WWL combo. Could it be because the WWL alters the focal length of the lens a lot? For manual lenses, the GH5 allows you to set the focal length manually, which serves precisely the stabilization algorithm.
  10. Yes, these lenses didn't change since the Gopro 4. I did not study optics either but those sensors are so tiny and works hyperfocal. Maybe the new insta is a little bit different with its 1" sensor. Gopro is the market leader so everything revolves around them. Inon still mentions obsolete Sony action cams. The real truth 😄
  11. I see a lot of conspiracy on the net and read a lot of speculation about this news that has indeed left everyone stunned. I add my own... I see nothing mysterious in this. Nikon just before the move to mirroless was almost given up for dead (it had just lost a very important piece of its business in lithography of electronic components). Now it's out of the picture, but I don't think its Z line has changed things all that much. So in a very high-tech market with a very small (declining) number of units sold, it is increasingly difficult to find the funds for the necessary technological investments. Sony has a diversified business and can rely on revenues and technologies from so many other markets. Red in my opinion did not fare any better. It remained a mystery to me how such a small company could make a living in this industry. Where was it getting the money for technology investments. By the way, in Europe Red was getting progressively gnawed off the market by Arri and Sony competition is hard. So big fish eat little fish. It's a win-win deal for both of them even while keeping their respective brands separate. The exchange of technologies will be there. Even without fantasy Red by Nikon stickers or the like. Nikon acquires several patents and technology (raw and global shutter) and enters the cinema market. Red accesses Nikon's technology and more of its production capacity. If in a few years we essentially have a Nikon camera inside a Red cube marked Red no one will ever know. Then of course there are a whole series of probable ripple effects in the patent war and on trade agreements with other brands.

    Nikon buys Red

Nikon is aiming to broaden its presence in the cinematography industry. The company has disclosed its agreement to acquire Red, a cinematography camera manufacturer, which will operate as a fully-owned subsidiary of Nikon. Details regarding the terms and value of the acquisition were not revealed. In its announcement, Nikon expressed its intention to utilize this acquisition to expand its footprint in the rapidly growing professional digital cinema camera market. By leveraging the strengths and networks of both companies, Nikon anticipates an innovative future in product development that will push the boundaries of film and video production. Nikon's proficiency in product development, reliability, image processing, optical technology, and user interface, combined with Red's expertise in cinema cameras, including unique image compression technology and color science, is expected to drive the creation of distinctive products. 13. There is the AOI-UCL-03. It' not a rela macro but a close-up lens. The sister wide angle lens is excellent. AOI and I non lens use the QRS-2 mount. I see that both Easydive and T-housing have a Inon adapter for their gopro and dji osmo housings. I guess it "ShouldWork" even on AOI lens... It's a simple system and designing and printing at home a mount for the Insta one should be pretty easy. https://www.easydive.it/en/accessories-for-underwater-housing/accessories-for-housing-action-cam/additional-lenses-for-action-cam https://www.aditech-uw.com/en/shop/cat-238-307-767.html
  14. It was released a few days ago, a really well-made short film with very beautiful cinematography. From the synopsis of the film: Four years ago, Patagonia produced another feature film about salmon. This one is a real punch in the gut.

  15. From Youtube author's comments: @Barmaglot did you do blackwater in Andaman sea?
  16. Maybe @bghazzal can give you some info 😉
  17. Where was the photo taken?
  18. They are like pets...
  19. Which kind of fish are those? Sturgeons? Initially I thought they were sharks 😵
  20. Hi Brett, welcome back to the bright side 😉
  21. Welcome to the club 😞 In this case I believe it is because the lens has 10 times the surface area of the gopro and consequently the likelihood of picking up material in sediment-rich waters such as rivers and lakes is much greater. Also the fact that it is a wet lens exposes it to the known problems of other big sisters such as WWL and EMWL. Then in my case something else happens inside the gopro... Sorry I did not shared any other example but therlse are very busy days.
  22. So you are lucky that you don't have to spend all that money 😉
  23. Not by default. We should arrange some DIY attachment.
  24. This could be an explanation. Maybe the front 52 mm adapter and wet lens reduce the heat exchange. Good to know then. I couldn't find any reliable source stating it. Problem is that trout spawning last about one month so there's no time to experiment. I got the AOI lens few days ago and the next full moon everything will be over.
  25. Actually in the subsequent test, we never found fogging on the gopro lens... only the first time because I dislogded it by mistake. I would have tested it without protective lens but I couldnt find reliable info on being 100% waterproof. Someone says it's waterproof but not as before. That's means nothing to me. BTW given that my wet lens holds on the gopro protective lens, I should remove the glass and keeping the frame. Mistery
