  1. I second this very much. Had it, tested it and returned it. Very very very soft. It will translate to UW performance too. One certainly wont be able to use WACP-C/28-70 to get this (WACP-C/28-60 @60)
  2. Ahh! I did not realize that A1II has different port layout than A1mkI ! I certainly could not use this on my camera as my USB-C port has been made absolutely inaccessible by that L Hdmi... good luck then! πŸ‘ (btw the picture you shown is that of A1Mk1. Your HDMI will be lower and that cable will get bent hell of lot more so beware (!!)) When I was using Shinobi (still have it but now switched to WED5Pro) I found the LOG-HDR conversion indispensable in highly lit low contrast shots (imagine closer to surface shooting with surface in shot or like milky kind of environment like I was filming galapagos sharks at Malpelo at the surf brake zone and overcasted). That environment combined with overexposing slog3 produced white screen so even though I would know where I was with exposure with waveform I would have no idea what am I shooting :-). Even if I had view assist in camera ON. Obviously you cant use it as it would get recorded like that. While with Shinobi HDR tone mapping it really was WYSIWYG without affecting underlying footage. But I was able to make do with Shinobi as I left it on HDR tone mapping and just got used to the fact that my stills were a bit brighter in colors on a monitor preview 🀣. Or I shot stills with Slog3 and called it a day 🀣. Having said that even though I have now option to switch log conversion on and off with wed5pro I found myself that for me I should simply choose a dive being either video or photo as the mindset is just completely different but I guess I am getting old 🀣 Making a decision on FX5 myself :-) OCN1/2 looking so tempting but as always caveats what is available and where and how re:framerates and also no reports on CWB yet. Good luck!
  3. I say you are out of luck. Not using HDMI 2.0 but HDMI 1.4 for my Shinobi. From what I know the 2.0 cable has - must have - the same philosophy which is to go from top through zoom ring to the bottom and then up and so the HDMI right angle connector will obscure the USB-C port underneath. With 1.4 solution you might be able to do some woodoo as 1.4 cable is separate from the rest and so you may try some ribbons etc but 2.0 cable is all in one piece if I am not mistaken so no woodoos there I am afraid... You've probably made your orders and I know I am stretching it but for the price of Ninja solution and then some you may have some internal RAW recording solution from elsewhere... Like Ninja total cost will be like housing for FX5... just saying... For hybrid shooting with Slog3/HDR preview I did not have the best experience with Shinobi - excellent image in one of two scenarios but cant really switch between noLUT for stills and HDR processing for movie underwater and I think it is going to be the same for Ninja. That touch screen interface and Nauticam solution for it dont cut it for changing setting underwater. Good luck though.
  4. I second opinions on 20-70 (excellent lens for where you expect unexpected) but not for Galapagos. Also WWL-1 good overall but not for Galapagos. I should know as I had WWL-1 there - only to miss on a lot of action when clearing bubbles after the drop. Galapagos encounters will be close distance with need to go ultrawide - seals, jacks bowls, iguanas and whale shark if you get lucky - and medium distance for eagle rays, hammers and alike. You will need great AF so anything adapted wont work. 16-35 may be too long and 12-24 too short. That leaves you with the only best Galapagos option good for travel which on Sony N100 is WACP-C with 28-60. The downside is that once you put it on it will never leave your rig and so you may want to start looking for second home for other lenses and ports you acquired up until this point 🀣 Edit: I now see that you are on Marelux housing. Not sure where camera sits in that housing but Nauticam wants 30mm extension port for WACP-C. Marelux has this 25mm adapter and 17mm. No idea if it would work but chatgpt suggests 17mm from some research. No idea. https://www.marelux.co/products/nauticam-n100-to-marelux-extension-ring-20 MareluxNauticam N100 Port to Marelux Housing Adapter Ring 17Nauticam N100 Port to Marelux Housing Adapter Ring 17
  5. Mission 1 Pro vs The Seals: Did Inon Faceplate Fix The Focus? Yes it did - for close subjects. Everything further away is blurry. I think the problem with Mission1 (minimum focus distance) is unfixable. Yes you can slap wet lens in front of it but then it acts as a macro lens - you get your working distance but that's it. So yes you can plan your shoot, bring lenses required and get great footage. But by no means is this Mission1 camera all purpose versatile no settings no thinking required action cam for underwater. For that one needs to look elsewhere.
  6. I have had privilege to spent 45 minutes alone with this baby whale shark during wee hours while on a live aboard in Maldives. The lights behind the boat had different colors and another challenge was the flicker which I did not notice at first. Sony A1 in Slog3 denoised and deflickered in Davinci Studio.
  7. hahahahahahahahahahahaha🀣 welcome to the club!πŸ₯‚ Same for sony A1 except for apsc zoom but that's because A1 has 8k sensor. Enjoy buttery smooth 4K and just focus on strengths not weaknesses. 4K120 - use it wisely. The same applies to my 8k. Also overheats and chews battery. CWB on custom modes - yep. Not possible. Reserve these modes for assisted light shooting. Like with strobes and video lights where you gonna use AWB. DO NOT use UWAWB with these. Use AWB only. Monitor - yep. It's what it is. Plus as long as you stay away from 24p the switch between modes is instantaneous. However as soon as you get 24p in the mix you need to budget extra second coming in and out of that mode. Also set your display in preferences to 1080p Tracking? in Video? On a Sony?🀣 You have now options to set custom focus areas and assign focus area selection to a custom button. Or switch between them using custom button. You need to adjust around these limitations. Again - welcome to the club! 🀣
  8. it's the ability to submerge even if 2m. For better angle. To get orcas and humpbacks with the surface. Otherwise its mostly boring. In drysuit you really are a duckie like that plastic toy for kids bathtubs 🀣. On one drop I lost a fin. When I saw it I tried to grab it. It was hovering and slowly really slowly descending. Almost neutral buoyancy. My fingers were like 2cm from it. I tried to jump up and down using my remaining fin. I was not able to touch it. 🀣 The only thing I could do was observing that beautiful yellow fin slowly descend into the blue in a beautiful sunny nordic day 🀣 Edit: I forgot - and I saw orca underneath (true) and I thought 'wouldnt that be nice if she would bring it back to me?'🀣🀣 Save Willy! 🀣
  9. for 1/3? heck yeah! Where do I fly? As for X5 the problem is not so much with the camera itself but the housing. Standard housing should have never been released and the pro housing does better but still way worse then X6... trust me.... have them all... 360 standard and pro AND Nauticam's ...
  10. If you want to save some money skip WWL and get WACP-C. You will end up there anyway... So very much sharper on both ends.
  11. yes, Waterproof. Was your Polar Front already converted to diesel electric? That boat is AWESOME! Whom do you go with this time? Yes action cams were terrible from what I saw, people had their gopro13s and such and perhaps good for cellphone but not for your home 72inch OLED panel. But they were handy and got the memories... This is why I originally steered you towards X6 because that thing has awesome low light mode and still with 10bit I-log. In your shoes I would still get it as 2nd cam... considering the cost of this experience nothing seems expensive :-)
  12. Thanks :-) we were lucky with this feeding session. But before it was ended not by one, not by two but 4 humpbacks my battery died and my backup Osmo I lent a poor soul who drowned hers so talk about luck :-) As for 1.8 it's tempting BUT you would need extra rings and 250mm dome which is like not practical and very expensive. My experience with excellent Sony 14mmF1.8 wide open on 180mm glass wasn't good. And if you become a lucky dog and orca bypass you only center will be sharp at 1.8 so I would not go that route. That orca feeding picture above was 1/250 F4 ISO25600 but in Slog3 so without log it would have been ISO6400 which is like nothing for A1 and I guess for Z8 too. That video was at 4pm so quite dark already but F4 24fps in Slog3 overexposed took care of that :-) ISO was like 32000 but with Sony A1 you dont really need to care... :-) So if you want one good solution for Orca and beyond get a loan and go for WACP-C. You will not regret it (your wallet maybe will🀣) . And stop being obsessed with WWL-C nonsense, your Z8 deserves better 🀣
  13. My route with Sony A1 was 180glass with 16-35PZ which proved awesome for big seas Socorro and Cocos as my first destination with the camera. Also for A1 seamless zoom to APSC so it gave me 16-55 on 4k with all metadata. Next step was WWL-1B (which may be for sale btw) where the original idea was both tele, macro and wide-angle on one dive. Well it didn't last long as on Galapagos I missed a lot of action between the drop and bubbles cleaning. Then for the fun of it the experiment with 140glass and adapted Canon 8-15 with TC2x. Both with and without TC not a good idea as the whole setup is loooong and gave me little compared to next step. And so then ultimately it came to WACP-C which is still good for travel and create a pocket rocket out of A1 with sharpness unparalleled to any of above and the seamless reach from 130deg all the way to like 35 in 4K on A1. One would say I could have save some money skipping the two intermediates. For orca Norway trip with Z8 I would get 180glass with 14-30 F4 which would give you chance for nice topside snaps without taking camera out, splits and very good wide angle. And will become ultimate video package. And then close your eyes, open the wallet and get WACP-C with 24-50 and call it a day 🀣 Above pictures and video below are done with sony's equivalent 16-35 f4PZ
  14. Why the question then? πŸ™ˆ You know the 7 mil drill πŸ˜‚ We were very lucky for the weather last year last week of October. Still the viz was unforgiving even for my Sony A1 AF. Got a few nice snaps but in our group (several big cams) the consensus was that action cam was the way to make memories 🀷. But we also were dry. Next time for me is wet. And will I take big cam next time? For sure!🀣
  15. Orca in Norway… umm… quickly in and out, 7 mil wet gloves, cold fingers no you don’t want to do take off wet lense and clear bubbles πŸ˜‚. Plus you won’t see shit, viz is real bad and without monitor at angle you won’t see shit anyway. AF will struggle and without sun up you won’t see anything guaranteed. For memories better to add X6 with UW case on a 3m pole to the price of the trip and be done with it. But with luck it’s a blast. Unforgettable. In the splash zone of surfacing humpback. πŸ’™
  16. There is one on instagram but kinda hideous to me. Truth is he must have had terrible visibility which is common over there. https://www.instagram.com/reels/DdimfUBt-BL/
  17. Late reply - sorry. No lights for big Galapagos. Yes lights for small Galapagos. Hammers dont like them. They hate them. Kill anyone in your group with their GoPro and 1000lumens light trying to make difference. There are only a couple dive sites where they can be useful for smaller life, like the red lipped batfish but you will spend 90% of your time hunting for big life so to me not worth the travel trouble.
  18. Exactly my sentiment. They probably know they are going to sell them so why to put extra effort to think... Better to copy FX3 housing and be done with it... Lazy Nauticam... Being in Sony and N100 ecosystem I was considering FX5 ... but with this? I really liked C50 housing for what it offers. Maybe I was also hoping for some kind of levers Aquatica is using on their GH5 housing... great access to top buttons... ... lazy Nauticam...
  19. What do you all think compared to C50 housing? NauticamNauticam NA-FX5 Housing for Sony FX5 CameraThe Sony FX5 brings VENICE-class capability into a body barely larger than the FX3. 20. WOW! Just came across this post. Saw video like three times now. I absolutely admire readiness and then concentration to stay calm and make the best out of this encounter. For half of video I was debating was it slowed down or not but then look at the eyes and it wasn't but then look at the grass and maybe it was I just dont know! A stability of a hand glider! Amazing. Would you share equipment used, frame rates and such... To me only gyroflow can do this level of stabilization in post but IDK.
  21. To be fair I forgot to put Action6 into low light mode. However in low light 'Supernight' mode it does not record with DlogM. Everything baked in. X6 does record in iLog in night mode. Names of videos say the source and processing. !Note! View HDR versions only on HDR capable screens. No color or exposure tweaks were performed on any clip. Only conversions and factory LUT applications. For the fun of it I threw in Sony A1 clip. Only Slog3 to HDR conversion.
  22. It seems like they developed their own (kind of) LUTs to conform color spaces/gamuts of various camera manufacturers into Davinci wide gamut intermediate color space. Similar to what standard LUTs do to conform log profiles to rec.709. So if you want to deliver log footage for HDR rec.2020 you do not apply rec709 LUT on it. You set your project for davinci wide gamut and unless shooting arri or other cameras providing info in metadata you tell davinci manually which color space and gamma you were using recording particular clips. As for magenta - don't fret over it that much in this case. There is Magenta and there is Magenta. One magenta that you see in shadows of water column means wrong white balance. But the other magenta that you saw on my X6 sample is perfectly natural and you can see it with your own eyes when looking up the water column at certain depths with blue skies above.
  23. Have you not read about NO LUT for manta clip? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ I-log processed and conformed to Davinci wide gamut by resolve studio. They already have I-log provisions. More so I don't understand why then you have need to post silly jpeg to show highlight blowout. You can see on that clip and on your screen that sun is shining through the water and crispy. JPEG will show you none if it... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ 12m is not that big of a water column and it was sunny that dive. What else do you need to have explained. Magenta in water? Have you ever not seen one when looking up on a dive? Listen I can see you are a fan of GoPro from your past posts, thats fine. I am not a fan of Insta360, in fact X5 underwater with their domes was a bit letdown, not improved by much with nauticam housing. But with X6 they just nailed it. Will action cam be better for certain things? Off course it will. Say macro for example. But for majority of divers who document their dives and want to create nice memories or document wrecks and caves there is no upside in using action cams compared to X6. Not in color, not in dynamic range, not in sharpness, not in low light performance.
  24. 🀣 believe or not but myself I see sometimes the same pinkish water with my naked yes. I do however have IOL implants so maybe that's that 🀣 Your blown out part is nothing else than sun shining through 12m of water column and I SPECIFICALLY said that you should judge the footage on HDR capable screens. You posting a JPEG here means nothing else than that you watched it some crappy SDR monitor and made a screenshot from it. If not you do realize that JPEG as a screenshot can't display HDR content, right?🀦🀦 As for 16:9 videos - that's the beauty of 360 camera - you can frame whatever you want to frame. Listen - I saw this footage reframed for use on my 72inch 4k TV and you will have to take my word for it that it is stellar. Yes, my Sony A1 footage from the same scene looks a bit smoother in shadows and everything but we talk about difference of full frame vs 1inch sensor sensitivities. And USD 14,000 vs USD 900 solution. Listen no doubt that GoPro M1 is capable action cam although with terrible shortcomings for UW use (optically) but the output is what matters and I am saying that also and especially with the flexibility in mind with the X6 and its underwater solution arrival there is no need to carry action cams underwater anymore. Plain and simple.
