Alex B Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Hi, i want to share a video from my latest trip to Greenland with you The professional freediver Anna von Bötticher and I spent a tour in East Greenland and dived unique icebergs. An iceberg was crystal clear and gave a utopian impression underwater. At another iceberg we went into the water right next to a huge iceberg at the narrow gap that is created by the tides. It was great, almost endless visibility and a great atmosphere. Read more in the Youtube description and watch it till the end, its not 2:22 long! Alex. 14 1

Davide DB Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Tell us more about the logistic. Do you go there, drill a hole and dive for yourself? 🤣 Safety measures?

Actually thats it, almost. You need the operator which takes you and the drill to the spot on a skidoo or ATV. And its more convinient if that guy also pulls you out of the water and hold the safety rope too, if you want a safety line. At the big iceberg we had no hole and no safety line, because the water gap was next to the iceberg. This huge iceberg was not a usual divespot. We did the shot only as long as the freediver was not freezing. If this iceberg had broken or rolled i cant writes these lines. The risk during winter is not that high like in summer, but it exists. Its was a unique opportunity to dive at such a hugh iceberg and Sven from Northern Explorers had the idea. The day before Anna, the freediver, slided through an open water gap next to a small iceberg. Sven thought thats a unique chance to get in the water at the big one too. Anna was on fire - i had my concerns, but she said i HAVE to film her - i couldnt refuse Edited May 4 by Alex B 5

Its almost perfect shape, the seethrough ice looked like lit - one of a kind!
canislupus Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Wow, very nice job, well done!! It will be interesting to know what was the equipment used on the video, if you don’t mind sharing. Cheers. 1

TmxDiver Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Great video. I'm sure there were safety divers in the water, but it is interesting that she didn't have a tether line. I know that it is a possibly entanglement hazard, but I would have thought she would trail a line to the surface. - brett

I thought the same thing but apparently not! 😱

Very interesting. - brett At the diamond iceberg Anna, the freediver, oriented on my safety line that leads her to the icehole. We had no safety divers. It was just Anna and me. I was on scuba and watched her carefully as she was going up and the guy on the ice got a briefing what to do in case of a black out. Anyhow, it is a very impressive performance, mentally and phsycologically. Imagine beeing in minus degree C water temp under ice on a breathhold, finding the way back to the icehole, first searching for me in this twilight, looking where the safety line is pointing, maybe you cant see it right away, trusting this is the proper way back. At the big iceberg on some spots the chunks of ice were so packed she cant move them away, she had to swim further and try it again. She is something! 1

Joerg Arnold Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Great job, Alex. I have rarely met anyone who works so hard under these conditions. We'll definitely see each other there again. Greetings from Berlin 1
Alex B Posted October 5 Author Posted October 5 🙂 Hi Jörg, thank you for your nice words! I can work that hard, because i am sleeping in between, like your picture show 😁
PeterN Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I saw your video at the San Diego Underwater Film festival. My wife and I agreed it was one of our favorites. Nice work! The free diver was wearing a wetsuit must have been really cold. How long was she in the water? 1

You liked it more than Aquaballet? Thats my favorite 😊 She was wearing a 5mm suit. A session took max 30min. The cold water with -1.6 C is only one thing, she also had to breath the cold air of -10 to -15. 🥶 Edited October 9 by Alex B
