I have obtained a Kenko TELEPLUS PRO 300 DG AF (not the "d" model, and it works fine...AF and aperture display.

Does anyone know if continuous autofocus with 3D tracking works on the Z bodies with the 8-15 + FTZ + Kenko TC DG combination?

Just checked the combination. Yes, it works on a Z6iii with the DG version of the Kenko 1.4 but NOT the DGX version.

Yes, i use that TC on the Z8. Everything works great.

Super useful and I will definitely be printing the TC zoom gear version for the 8-15 and the 24-50 zoom gear too when I pull the trigger on the Z5 II...

Keep in mind that for the Z5II with Nauticam you need the ($500+) Nauticam N120 FTZ adapter which has its own zoom knob which engages with the F mount zoom gears. You could avoid this and use the housing zoom control by making the zoom gear 25mm longer. You still need the extra extension though and Nauticam don't make a 45mm ring it seems but you may already have extensions to make up what is required.

I know I had the adapter mounted knob for my rig using a Canon 8-15 and I didn't really like it. The zoom control gears on the FTZ look like an improvement on the older style adapter mounted knobs though.

The Z5-II and Z6-III housings use a newer, more compact, and less compatible design than other Nikon / Nauticam housings.

They only have "native" gears for a handful of lenses at this point, and you really do need the FTZ Adapter thing to use most lenses and gears.

Added: I suppose it is to be expected, but FWIW, that TC works fine for autofocus, 3D autofocus and aperture readout for the Z5II as well as the Z8.

An update - I was just reading this thread about the kenko teleconverters and noted that the DGX versions were mentioned to not work on the Z8. I just received a Z8. My intention was to continue using the Nikon 8-15 and FTZii adapter. I also have a Kenko 1.4 teleconverter labelled as:

N-AF 1.4 x1.4 teleplus pro 300 DGX

I have had no issues using this on D500 and D850

Yesterday I did a desk test with the Z8 and FTZii and unless I am missing something it all seemed to work without issue - autofocus (including 3d tracking), aperture was displayed and could be changed, no error messages. Looking at exif data the aperture was shown correctly as was focal length - at 15mm read as 21mm. Usable range from 11-15mm without vignetting. I allowed the camera to sleep and it all started up with no issues or error messages.

Maybe just lucky - for me it seems to function fine. Let's hope that translates once underwater!!

I use the same Kenko TC 1.4 model on my Z8 with no issues. I mostly use it with the Nikon 8-15mm F-mount lens.

Dave, which FTZ model are you using?

Just before I sold my 8-15mm a couple of weeks ago, I tested the Kenko DGX again on a Z6iii and there was definitely no AF or aperture. I thought the FTZii was just a re-work of the adaptor housing to remove the tripod mount. Maybe it had more? Or maybe the Z8 is, oddly, slightly different??

Correction: I have the Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DG. Not the DGX. I bought this in 2011 to use with a Tokina lens.

My adapter is the FTZ II model. I bought my Z8 around December 2023 and it came with the FTZ II in a bundle deal.

I can also confirm the Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DG (no X) works well with the FTZII + Nikon 8-15 @TimG :-)
Tested AF-C with 3D tracking, aperture and zoom from 11-15mm using @Dave_Hicks zoom gear.

Yeah the DG version always seems to work. It's the DGX that is "maybe" problematic.
