Has/is anyone using a 1:1 viewfinder on their nauticam housing with a sony mirrorless camera like the a7rv, presumably with the sony viewfinder in "zoom out" mode?

I've seen a post where someone used this on their nikon z series, but interested specifically in a sony unit.

I have the old model on my A7RV, I guess that's 1:1? It fits and you can see most of it at the right angle...... it's my first viewfinder though so I don't think I can offer much actual opinion on it (didn't want to pay thousands for the new one and potentially find I don't like it) - I found it quite hard to use, but expected that to happen. And I'd probably find the 0.8:1 hard to use too!

The Nikon Z8 (maybe other Z cameras) has a feature that slightly reduces the size of the EVF display. This allows the camera to work with the older Nauticam viewfinders without clipping the display. Works great for me.

Does Sony have a similar option?

Yes. Interested to see if @Yorkie88 has this turned on and if its still cropping his viewfinder slightly.

From the A7rV Manual:

Viewfinder Magnifi.

Sets the display magnification of the viewfinder. If you select [Zoom Out], the viewing angle will become narrower. You can easily check the overall composition even when wearing glasses.

  1. MENU → s_menu_setup.png (Setup) → [Finder/Monitor] → [Viewfinder Magnifi.] → desired setting.

Menu item details

Standard:

Sets the viewfinder display magnification to standard.

Zoom Out:

Reduces the viewfinder display magnification

Yeah I had that zoom out option switched on, I think it still cuts the corners off slightly (it was back in June so can't remember exactly) - I think I turned it off as I found it easier to see less of the display but bigger if that makes sense.

I'd say zoom out shows pretty much all the screen, maybe the far corners are a bit hard to look at but I would be looking in the centre mostly anyway.

I tried to use my phone to take a picture of the viewfinder with the zoom out option on and off - not sure if it's useful or not though! Tricky to take a picture, you can see more with your eye I think, as you can change angle etc.
