  1. I have the 6400 and am struggling with whether I shouldn't buy the 6700. The 6400 is already very good in terms of AF and tracking, but the 6700 should be a whole generation better. If the tracking is even at the level of the A7 IV, then the tracking feels like a military target acquisition system and you can rely on it amazingly well. This should also make the 50mm Macro much faster (hopefully) I'd go with the 10-20 with dome for wide angle and zeiss touit 50/2,8 for macro (consider also the 90mm Sony!)

Too bad: I am there 6 weeks later… would have appreciated meeting you!
  3. Buy a TG-6 or RX100VA that might be out of scope or gamble. Risk might be 1/5?
  4. When freediving, I always enjoy the silence and the fact that you can hear the sounds that actually exist underwater. Conventional scuba is always terribly loud, and the other points you promised with CCR would be incredibly appealing to me. Can you say anything about the costs here? Equivalent value of a nice full-frame camera underwater equipment with light, housing and glass?
  5. I can’t support this opinion. I switched from a reliable flash with straight tube - I used it always with diffuser. Switching to the Retra is like using a softbox (as you do in normal photography).
  6. El Quesir : good Marsa Shagra: better.
  7. Ok, hatte dich nicht erkannt! Qualifikationsniveau hier 3 Größenordnungen über Taucher. Schön, dass du hier bist!
  8. As an innovation leader like Retra, you naturally always take a higher risk with new product launches than with companies that copy existing technology and adapt it to their own requirements. Underwater photography is always a niche market. I can therefore well understand the decision. However, I hope that a battery compartment with 18650 or comparable, standardized high-capacity batteries will be considered for the next generation. I have the new Pro Max and have absolutely no complaints about battery life. The flash battery typically lasts as long as the battery in my camera, which actually only needs to be recharged after 2-3 days.
  9. WACP-C,WACP-C! („Jehova, Jehova“)
  10. The included focus bracketing in the last deploy of software for the A7 IV - I'm quite sure the same will be done for the A1 and A1 II
  11. Beautiful pic! Stick to the WACP-C. No bubbles, sharp.
  12. Rather not. I can't imagine that improvements in AF will help UW. What we need are good sensors and reliable AF - I doubt that anything beyon A7IV and RV will really help making better pics. Video might be something different....
  13. My experience with the 16-50 was that it's neither fast nor sharp. On the other hand it's the perferred solution for many of the A6XXX users - maybe I'm too sceptical. Or those users have no comparison with better lenses. I have no idea about the white balance of the A6700 but the bacscatter-information sounds too negative. If you look at the MTF-Charts of the 16-50 https://www.digitalkamera.de/Zubehör-Test/Sony_E_16-50_mm_F3_5-5_6_OSS_PZ_II_SELP16502_im_Test/14437.aspx you can see that the edges are weak at wide angle. In summary going with the A7C II is surely not the worst option. null
  14. With the WWL even f/7.1 might be enough.
  15. I wasn't aware that you can't shoot with the 16-35 wide open - then also my recommendation would be to use the WWL
  16. Surely the RV has much better AF and better sensor than R2. Have you been happy with IQ (edges?) and AF performance last time? In tricky conditions it’s more important to know how to deal with the cam, lens and focus than to be one f-stop better.
  17. Even if it’s hard to believe: there is a life without viewfinder! hope that helps 😬
  18. Ok, understood. A6700 is a really good one and also my GAS is already activated… Looking at the port charts the 10-20 with 180 dome could be an option. (Edit: with 6“ Acrylic Dome you don’t even need any adapter) But the 16-50 is such a crap… I had three of them over the years and each of them was really weak. The new version of the 16-50 doesn’t seem to have improved ( other than the new 10-20).
  19. Regarding white balance - that was the original question: Should be exactly the same as in the newer FF-bodies.
  20. In my opinion, regarding the size the A6700 is not as suitable as a full-frame camera of the same size as a model from the A7C series. However, this is not due to the body, but to the poor quality of the 16-50 standard lens of the APS-C series. This means that even the WWL or the WACP-C won't help if the lens is poor. As far as full-frame lenses are concerned, the 28-60 is an excellent partner on which at least half of Sony's success under water is based. If it's going to be a crop sensor (and the A6700 is incredibly good), I'd rather go with dome and Canon 9-15 with Metabones.
  21. I am just returning from San Diego where we did a night dive with California Divers. Sea was a bit choppy, visibility poor so I knew I wouldn’t have much time to adjust camera and flash. I switched the Pro Max to TTL, and to my full surprise there was nothing to adjust. Especially the focus lights serving also as torches made the dive in that cold water fairly easy. I can’t tell whether this works with other brands as well but with that experience I‘ll stick with the Retras.
  22. First day. We booked a private snorkeling trip - everybody was aware that the typical spots aren‘t private at all. But light was beautiful. The we went looking for whales, distance between us and other boats about half a mile. Suddenly he shouted - get ready, NOW! 3 Minutes that made the trip worth every penny. We just laid flat on the water, the mother and her calf approached us curious - and left, when another boat approached.
  23. Cameraman is Roger Munns: https://www.roger-munns.com/netflix-our-oceans-underwater-cameraman/ He's also the one who did the AppleTV underwater screensaver. I met him this year on Dharavandhoo where he was filming the Mantas at Hanifaru Bay. He's a nice guy! I'll go for Netflix just because of this series. Hopefully it is worth the price.
