bghazzal Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Hello all - this might be just some random downtime, or could it be that wetpixel.com is finally gone? I managed to look up a thread earlier today, but a few hours later I'm getting error messages on different browsers / VPN connections. Does it work for anyone? Could this be much discussed final over-and-out? cheers ben
bghazzal Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 (edited) Ok thanks - must be something else then. Still can't connect here - firefox, chrome, private windows, VPNs... odd! Edited June 14 by bghazzal
TimG Posted June 14 Posted June 14 I was able to access it about an hour ago. Very little traffic going on. 1

bghazzal Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 It's back again here as well now, real strange since it was unaccessible on 2 computers and phone, different browsers and with or without vpn. Anyway, sorry for the false alarm folks! 3
JS1221 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I can no longer connect to Wetpixel.com via my mobile or desktop. Did it finally come to an end? 2 1
ChipBPhoto Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I’m seeing the same thing. The only real loss will be losing some of the good legacy informational posts. Although we are doing a good job of building it up here. 5
Dave_Hicks Posted September 18 Posted September 18 But where will I sell my Ikelite D70 housing now???? 1
Kraken de Mabini Posted September 18 Posted September 18 (edited) Wetpixel does not come up after several tries, and appears to have finally died. RIP Wetpixel, you did a fine job to keep us underwater aficionados entertained and educated. Thank you and we wish you a happy afterlife! While this is sad news, we are most fortunate in that Waterpixels has replaced it in full strength. Let us continue the fine tradition started by Wetpixel by contributing to, posting ads to buy and sell equipment, telling us about your dive trips, making new friends, and mostly by enjoying Waterpixels. RichN Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Here is what I know, the hosting provider had a major datacenter move for a bunch of there servers. The notice was sent out weeks ago that this would be happening. Moved server account holders will be given a new IP address for their servers when the move happens. DNS records for domain will need to be updated to new IP address for the site to be reachable again. So this is where things are, the server was moved to new datacenter on new hardware & software and a new IP. Adam should have been notified of this multiple times and he will need to change and update the DNS records to reflect the new IP for wetpixel.com or the server will never be able to be reached. So I guess we wait and see if he ever updates that. I imagine even if it comes back, the days are still numbered when it does go offline permanently. In reflection of the last year and our actions to get this site going when we did and migrate as many members as we have.. I’m thankful we did it and thanks to all of you for helping rebuild the community here. 👏 6 7
TimG Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Wetpixel RIP. It was a wonderful resource. And well done to Rich for getting Waterpixels started! 👏 4 2

bghazzal Posted September 18 Author Posted September 18 (edited) Wetpixel seems to be back up now.... 🧟♂️ Edited September 18 by bghazzal 1 1
Kraken de Mabini Posted September 18 Posted September 18 (edited) Wetpixel is up and running again, the advertisements are to be up to date. But the masthead is still the same, with Adam Hanlon as publisher and editor! One hopes it is now possible to implement the changes suggested by RichN in his post above . No doubt funded with the funds "misplaced" from its members! 1
jlaity Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I got contacted by a probable scammer on their classifieds. My WTB post was answered through PM by a brand new member with few specifics. If the site is a ghost ship, then there’s even less protection and moderation than usual. (Not that there’s typically any protection on private party online sales…)
RichN Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Wetpixel is on a much older version of Invision, as time passes Security vulnerabilities increase. Potentially allowing the site to be hacked, accounts compromised, new accounts created in order to scam current members. Be more cautions than normal on Wetpixel please. Thanks @jlaity for mentioning this as a warning to people still using Wetpixel classifieds. Im not saying this happened but it's 100% possible. Seems that Adam is paying the bills currently on hosting and domain as well as he just updated the DNS on the domain to the new server. Maybe he is approving new accounts and rumaging around I don't know. 1
jlaity Posted September 19 Posted September 19 The account was created a year ago, but it was john7984 or something like that. Maybe someone registered 100 accounts back then. But didn’t even attempt to get the post count up with lame replies like “100%” and “wow.” 1 1
Kraken de Mabini Posted September 21 Posted September 21 (edited) Thank you, jlaity and RichN, for clarifying the finer details of the on-off-on again of Wetpixel, and the opportunity it opens to scammers. The safest and best use of one's time may be to bypass Wetpixel altogether, ignore it and let it wither. Instead, allow me to suggest that we read and enjoy, and contribute to, Waterpixels. Kraken de Mabini Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Or, I should have added: Read, partake and enjoy both Wetpixel and Waterpixels.
