A CMC-3 would be nice as well. Something to keep up with AOI's UCL-900 Pro for instance.
Their UCL-90 Pro is also fantastic, bright and already offers a stronger magnification than the CMC-1.

As much as I love my CMC-1, let's hope there's some movement on the the CMC line as well, for us little people 😁

October is coming to end soon, has this started shipping yet?

Everywhere i checked still says 1-2 weeks until shipping. I was hoping to get this for my next trip, but doesnt look like it.

Same here. Won't be delivering before 15 November. Was hoping to use one on an upcoming trip.

I've been shooting it since May. Haven't used my SMC-1 since, although the performance is very, very similar.

I like it very much, although the other products are more interesting to me.

What the products are more interesting to you?  I am looking for a super macro diopter.

It is great to see compatibility for M43 lenses!!!

I had a look but cannot find what the actual working distance of the Oly 60mm + SMC-3 is.

Would be great to compare it with the Oly 60mm + CMC-1 but I am assuming the SMC-3 would be more flexible.

The SMC-3 has less power than both the CMC-1 and CMC-2, the data is in the port chart.  I would consider the CMC-2 before the SMC-3 if you want something with a little less power as the CMC has slightly longer working distance.

Hello everyone,

I’m currently using the MFO-1 and MFO-3 with my Sony setup (A7CII and 90mm macro) and I’m really happy with both lenses!

On my last dive I took my Weefine WFL05S with me again and shot a few super-macro images, but the handling with this lens isn’t really great and it requires quite a bit of patience—especially the autofocus struggles a lot despite using a focus light.

For that reason, I’m considering switching to the SMC-3. In terms of magnification, it should be pretty much identical to the WFL05S. But what about the rest of the performance? Has anyone by any chance compared these two lenses before?

The main area of use would be freshwater, especially for shooting shrimps and other tiny creatures in lakes.

As an example, here’s a photo of my current setup shooting a skeleton shrimp of about 10 mm in length. Image minimally cropped.

Thanks a lot for your feedback,

Tino

Hi @Tino Dietsche I'm using on a flipx3 like you the MFO-1 (Happy with it) a MFO-3 (Happy for but didn't use it a lot for the moment) and as third lense i'm using the SMC-1

I'm looking like you some information about the smc-3 then the SMC-1 is alone without a dive guide "difficult" to use

I really need some information before I replace the smc-1 with the smc-3.

Thank you for the post. :)

Sorry whats your question?

I have the SMC-1, MFO-3, and an AIO as well (sits between the SMC-1 and SMC-3).

I use the dual Nauticam flip.

Attaching the non MFO-3 lens requires the medium collar-floats.

The MFO-3 and any of the others will also require this larger buoyancy collar.

@hedonist222 My question is: What is the benefit of the SMC-3 compared to the SMC-1.
1) lighter that's ok

2) how is the working distanceimprovement?

the port chart provides this information. My understanding was that the 1 and the 3 were very close in performance.

I read that the "theoritical" working distance and d.o.f. is "better" but how is it in the real life?

I notice that unhelpfully the SMC-1 is no longer in the port chart so you can't compare working distances any longer. Depth of field increase I'm not sure hoe they would increase this - it's generally proportional to magnification.

I personally owned the SMC-1 for years and now own the SMC-3. Honestly, they are very similar in 'real life' usage. To me, the biggest improvement is the SMC-3 is smaller and lighter.

As far as image quality, they are both exceptional, once you get the hang of the very short working distance. Yes, the SMC-3 has a slightly larger working distance, but nothing that is worthy of selling an existing SMC-1 and purchasing the SMC-3. It just makes it a little more usable in the everyday usage.

The SMC-1 is discontinued and removed from the Nauticam charts because they are basically the same thing designed for the same task with similar specs. Think of the SMC-3 as a 'v2' of the original SMC-1.

Hope this helps,

chip

I cannot edit my post. It should have said that the AIO sits between the SMC-1 and SMC-2.

I.e., it provides magnification between SMC-1 and SMC-2.

Chip puts it well above.

I haven't used the SMC-3 enough to come to a solid impression yet but I felt it focused faster than the SMC-1, but that could be a placebo effect because of the shorter length that "theoretically" results in faster focus because there is less disruption between the lens element and the sensor.

I only upgraded because I wanted to reduce weight and because I felt that it will only be better than the SMC-1 from a quality perspective.

I have an excellent condition SMC-1 going for a good price. Message me! :D
