Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....

Featured Replies

@Dave_Hicks I'm a little late to the party do you still have any cables/connectors to sell? I'd print the connectors my self but my last attempt to print flexible materials ended with a disassembled extruder and lots of cursing.

Made my first set of cables today. Originally cut the fiber with sissors and couldn't get the strobe to trigger. Used a razor blade to cut the fiber and now it's firing every time. Pretty pumped! Base

Looks like I might be too new to the forum to send direct messages, it's not going through.

I'd like to get 3 (pair of strobes + an extra) one meter long fiber optic cables with the 90 degree elbows on both sides (nauticam housing to retra strobe)

Does anyone know the best way to fix this- I have tried just popping the cord into the connector head but it always just pops out and doesn't stay in....

I can put a couple of connectors in an envelope for you that will work better and can be assembled/disassembled easily. No glue needed. Message me with an address.

Do any of our EU members have by any chance a spare length of Asahi MCQ-1000 fibre optic cable, ie the sort we ordered from the US?

I lost all my cables and spares in the fire in the Maldives and am trying to rebuild my gear. I just cannot find it in the EU despite contacting various fibre optic companies. I know I could use Toslink etc, but the Asahi cable has always worked so well for me I'd like to use that if I can.

Half a metre would really help. One metre would be brilliant! Happy to pay costs/shipping (to Amsterdam) of course.

Thanks!

Hi Tim

Sorry for the entire lost of your equipment during the fire on the boat.

How many lenght do you need ?

I didn't use the one we buy last year ? 2 year ago I can't remember. I can send you a part of, back to you. Sent me an email for the details

Lauren - Can you take apart the plug? There may be a very tiny screw and also the o-ring is likely holding the insertion end together. When the two halves are apart, you will likely have to bend the cable to fit the channels within the plug.

Thank you for the info it is something I will look into. Dave has offered to send me some plugs that might fix the problem!

The head that Lauren showed is actually insert molded and can't be fixed. Dave's connectors will work as will the Inon Bushings or the angled connectors from Howshot.
