Rumour: Canon RF 7–14mm f/2.8–3.5 Fisheye zoom may be announced this week (+ RF 14mm f/1.4L VCM)

Very good news for underwater Canon shooters!

According to CanonRumors, Canon may announce the RF 7–14mm f/2.8–3.5 fisheye zoom this week—alongside the RF 14mm f/1.4L VCM, which could be another great option for underwater shooters.

If true, this would be the first native mirrorless fisheye zoom from Canon/Sony/Nikon, and hopefully a nudge for more dedicated mirrorless fisheye options across the board.

Curious to see whether it lands as an L lens (likely) and how it stacks up against the EF 8–15mm f/4L Fisheye USM.

You can find the rumour link here.

If it is coming at an ultra humongous price, I am afraid.

It will be interesting (but also a very slim chance) if we can combine it with RF1.4x and RF2.0x teleconverters.

Let‘s also pray that Canon will keep the MFD ultra low and the entrance pupil in the front as on our beloved EF 8-15 fisheye.

No I have the RF10-20 mm

Very happy with it... rectilinear... some here didn't like rectilinear... I'm really happy with that.

But as soon the new RF7-14 will be available... I probably try it... no sure I'll appreciate it.. but I need to try a fisheyes .. I'm allready have th RFx2 extender if it work with the new RF7-14... why not make test with booth together.

I expect that using a fisheye with the RF 1.4x and 2x won't be an option as they have a protruding front element and the also a special bayonet that will only mate with lenses specifically designed for the converters. It needs the right bayonet and enough space at the back to accommodate the nose on the front of the converter. If I recall the RF 100mm macro won't accept them so it seems unlikely a fisheye will, UW photographers are unique in making use of a fisheye zoom and converters.

The Kenko converters are different in that they are designed to work with any lens as opposed to only the ones the manufacturer thinks could use one. I don't believe Kenko make an RF 1.4x or 2.0x as Canon doesn't allow Full frame third party optics to be licensed though.

Be interesting to see if the lens does appear though.

A future RF fisheye lens will certainly not be compatible with Canon RF converters. The rubber lip takes up far too much space, and RF is generally more compact than EF.
It would still be interesting...
