Vertical shots

Featured Replies

This may be the dumbest question ever. When I shoot verticals to have my shutter triggering arm up my arm hits my regulator hose. How does one avoid that?

Turn it the other way? If it's really annoying you might need to change hoses (longer or shorter) or add a swivel?
I shoot verticals in both the trigger up and trigger down positions and don't really think this is an issue for me, but now I'm going to pay more attention tomorrow 🤣

I’m intrigued by this. It’s an issue I’ve never noticed- although, I do occasionally find I have to tilt my head slightly to avoid blowing bubbles where they can be unhelpful.

Annoying indeed. Assuming you're right handed, Jeanie, is your reg coming over your right shoulder? Kristin’s idea of adding a swivel is a neat one.

And by my experience, there is no such thing as a dumb question. I’ve heard some dumb answers though…..

Yes my hose is coming over my right shoulder. My arm hit the hose knocking my reg. I dont mind putting my left hand higher but when i need to get low my shutter trigger hand is now on the bottom interfering. I'm trying to find out how a swivel would work and I don't think a longer hose would make a difference as it's my arm hitting the hose when I raise it. Headed to Bon Air in 2 weeks so I'm going to play around with technique I don't know if I need to take my arm and come up above the regulator hose

Hmmmmm…….. any chance you could post a pic of you holding the camera in the housing in your usual vertical framing position? Doesn’t need to be underwater. I’m trying to figure out why the angles are a problem.

After maybe thousand of photography-dives, I've never had this problem, and I'm trying to picture it in my mind. As Tim already wrote, a photo of your posture would probably be helpful. After reading your post here, we'll probably all have the same problem on our next dive—we just haven't noticed it yet! 😂

Put an angled swivel on your primary regulator hose.

yes, a photo please because I couldn't create the problem today and can't figure out why or how it's happening!
