  1. AOI Quick Release Adapters for UWL-03 and UCL-03 wet lenses are now compatible with the DJI Action 4 or 3 and the Insta 360 Ace and Ace Pro.
  2. One year ago I sent a RGBlue light in Japan for repair. Shipping and custom duties were really expensive. Try to contact FMfotovideo in Italy and ask them to quote the dome swapping. Second option: try for yourself with a scratch remover as Novus or similar. I repaired my polycarbonate domes several times with perfect results.
  3. Looking forward to see the full review. In 2024 Canon didn't implement a one button MWB. AFC seems to work with animals (otters) They didn't show the housing. Are R5 and R5 MKII bodies the same? (I don't think so). So, as usual, Nauticam got a body from Canon in advance and the housing is still a secret 😉

In an endless race it seems that the release date was chosen to try to dampen the enthusiasm for the release of the new DJI action camera. We will see if I am proven wrong by the new releases but I believe that in some ways we have now reached a technical limit in these cameras and without a radical change in design, we will only have incremental improvements but nothing revolutionary. Insta has gone to the 1" sensor with 8K and this seems to be a physical limitation for a fixed focus camera. Already the Insta is borderline: users have noticed that at the arm lenght distance (classic v-log) the camera is slightly out of focus and the solution is to apply a diopter. Perhaps this is why DJI and Gopro have not moved to 1" already. They should change the lens design. If we think about it, today any high-end phone has a photo section that is light years ahead of any action camera but also ahead of many mirrorless cameras (fortunately for many brands, Samsung years ago decided to get out of the photo market, considered too niche by the Korean giant). It is normal to have phones with multiple 1" lenses and PDAF l, tracking etc. All mid- to high-end phones make use of computational photography. This is another area where there will be big news in the future. Imagine the photo section of an iPhone/Galaxy enclosed in an action camera style case. The revolution goes from there.

It seems more squared than the 11/12 moreover they added some kind of heat sink. Maybe the Gopro 20 will be like that: Jokes apart, we don't know anything about its HW specs. The optional macro lens is the most interesting thing. We will se if it will be backward compatible and eventually compatible with some uw housing somehow. P.S In a few week we will have the latest DJI Osmo 5 too...

It seems that some photos of the upcoming GoPro 13 leaked online. The new version should be unveiled in the next few week. Come gentlemen come. Another round, another race! https://photorumors.com/2024/08/15/gopro-hero-13-camera-leaked-online/
  7. Davinci Resolve is OK except one caveat: Resolve free on Windows doesn't support 10 bit h.265. So the latest Gopro files. You have to transcode the files before import. Someone was able to read them via a 1$ HEVC codex on the Windows store, someone not. Moreover in the free version you cannot export 10 bit files.
  8. @Adventurer Why don't you post some pictures you were talking about in the other thread? The ones you don't like because of the extreme distortion. I would say the collection of tiles and sketchboards is complete. Real examples are needed. Don't be shy and don't be ashamed. @DreiFish has posted his own. P.S. I'm thinking to merge these two threads somehow...
  9. They are in the same ballpark. I would stick with it.
  10. Welcome aboard! I'm sure on the forum you will find a lot of good reasons to dive and photograph again 🙂
  11. I'll try to elaborate a bit. The parameters that adjust a photographic (and video) image are aperture, shutter speed and ISO. The Gopro, like all action cameras has a fixed aperture. The one on the Gopro is F2.8. If we also lock the shutter (hoping to use the 180° rule), to expose the image correctly, the camera will only be able to vary the ISO which is the least flexible parameter. In full light conditions the images would be totally overexposed (F2.8 1/50 ISO 100). In low light, at ISO 800 the games are over already. But then why did they put this option in the menus? Marketing certainly and then an option that can be useful in special situations with controlled and constant light. At that point you can intervene with ND filters. Or to 100% eliminate flickering from artificial light.
  12. No differences at all as summarized in the last post. With the Backscatter version you have the additional option of using their filters.
  13. Don't mess with the shutter speed on Gopros
  14. Yes, long story short, it's not a matter of fisheye or rectilinear lens but just a matter of actual FOV. The most critical camera movements are tilt and pan. Ciao
  15. Welcome aboard Jim! Plenty of living critters here 😄
  16. Welcome back Stephen!
  17. I couldn't find anything. Better ask to Isotta.
  18. Good question. I stick (almost) to rectilinear. In your shots the fisheye works because as Chris wrote, with the crop you are cutting most of the fisheye effect. Moreover the motion is parallel to the reef (trucking shot) and there are no subjects crossing the frame. The shape of the reef confuses or hides the horizon distortion. In documentaries it is used in just such cases: a bird's eye view of a reef where the particular perspective given by the fisheye communicates to the viewer the vastness and infinity with a frontal movement (dolly shot) as in your second case. The problems come when you have subjects crossing the frame or staying on the edges. The distortion introduced by the fisheye is not to say annoying but alienating. Imagine doing a rotation on yourself (panning shot) to follow a fish while keeping the bottom reef framed. The movement would look unnatural. In these cases it is more a matter of FOV and even extreme rectilinear lenses suffer from the same flaw. However, I have used the fisheye several times and don't mind it, knowing its characteristics you can exploit it. I still use the WWL-1B which has a slight distortion typical of fisheye. Often, on panning shots, I zoom in slightly to avoid the distortion. Once I forgot the dome for 7-14 at home and saved myself with an 8mm fisheye. Too bad they were all wreck dives. I won't tell you how the gun barrels came out! 😀 But it was that or nothing...

That type of booklet closure is subject to those problems. When you close the housing pay attention to the cleanliness of the o-ring and close very precisely checking that the o-ring is not pinched. Especially in the part near the hinge. When it is closed, spend a second of time checking that the o-ring is positioned correctly.
  20. I hear clicks on the keyboards of the DIY forum already 😉
  21. Do you have harmless animals in Australia? 😄
  22. Nice video indeed and amazing dive spot! I hope to dive there soon.
  23. Give us some feedback when arrives with some photos and of course some uw clips when you will use it 🙂
  24. I think the suggestions given from the op are a good start. Regarding WB I'd go for "native" as @bghazzal suggested. Auto wb on Gopro is really unpredictable. Of course you are forced to do some color correction during edit but for uw work it's a must. You are in a PAL country so 50p is mandatory. With the AOI lens you don't have corners problem so wide FOV all the life. If you are filming in the Med you need a couple of good lights. Give a look at the YouTube channel of our member @jpiovano He has several good examples of Gopro in the Med and IIRC he is using an AOI lens. Maybe he can share his settings. Last but not the least: Gopros are tiny weightless cameras so a perfect trim is paramount and it's difficult to achieve. Often I see Gopro kit unmanageable underwater. Weight all unbalanced to the lights. With such a setup it's impossible to get steady shots.
