Any educated guess if EMWL is still #3 with this lens?

--edit

As most would guess, Nauticam will be coming with dedicated port around the time of release. They are working on it currently. (Got email from Asian supplier).

Hopefully we get a good (read easy and cheap) solution for TC's aswell. They seem to be bit "off" in length at 17.2mm and 27.2mm.

I've ordered one. No idea on wait, but it would be conveninet if it came in time for my Lembeh trip in November. Very happy that it will work with TCs - something I used to value greatly with my Niko

I feel that the Tamron 90mm and Sony 90mm are close to indistinguishable in real world underwater shooting. I have used the Tamron more this year than the Sony, but both are currently in my bag here i

Sony should upgrade the 50mm macro first including IF and faster AF mechanism.

Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro G Master Review: Close to Perfect

Sony has finally revamped its main macro lens, and the feature-rich new 100mm lens is worth a much closer look.

Not a proper underwater review yet...

Although surely better than that one above where the guy starts says the Sony 90mm macro is his favourite lens in the world 😂. Saves watching that one!

Anyway, Matthew and I enjoy a good speculate on whether the Sony 100mm is a justifiable purchase and discuss the pros and cons. Basically it is a lot of money (lens + port/ext ring) for a gain that might be small or medium over the 90mm - that you surely already own if you are a Sony FF UW shooter. Neither of us has tried the lens yet, but have both had off the record discussions with friends who have shot it. I think we can all be confident that the lens will be the best macro lens for Sony, but what is not clear is by how much. This was recorded earlier in the week before Nauticam announced their new macro port. The sensible advice for most is wait and see if the improvements it brings really translate underwater or not and make it worth the considerable entry fee. But what's the fun in being sensible when it comes to your hobby!

New Nauticam macroport? Is it for the Sony 100mm lens?

I do not see it on the Nauticam (USA) homepage (and also not the 20mm N100 extensions)...

I someone here who can speak for Isotta?

For Isotta there looks like a couple of options depending on what extensions and ports are already owned.

I posted this earlier in the thread..

It looks straight forward for Isotta users like myself. They have both a 17mm and 20mm extension to add to the port for the Sony 90mm, or they have an 80mm extension that could add to the port for the Sony 28-60mm (since last year that port is available with the front 67mm threads specifically for use with the WWL-1B).

N100 Macro Port 125 for Sony FE 100mm F2.8

N100 Macro Port 125 for Sony FE 100mm F2.8

I wonder if I should just order this new port, or go with the Nikon 87mm macro port + the 100 to 120 adapter as discussed earlier in this thread. It would likely be 2.5mm shorter than the Nauticam one above, and might not fit as it will be insanely close....

I thought the same way. I’ll go for the new one.

480€ is quite ok for Nauticam and the setup with just N100 diameter will be less bulky

N100 Macro Port 125 for Sony FE 100mm F2.8

N100 Macro Port 125 for Sony FE 100mm F2.8

I hope Nauticam will bring the N100 20mm extension, that Alex writes to exist already, to the market (would give exactly the same 125mm extension together with the 105 macroport for the Sony 90mm). Together with the already available 35mm N100 extension the 105 macroport will be perfect for the 100mm macro & 1.4xTC as well (140mm and 2x magnification (! 😋) - I guess the 1.4xTC may well become my standard config since it comes close to the bare Zuiko 60mm that I liked a lot during my MFT days)...

P.S.: I, personally have still time to wait and see what happens. Next scuba holiday to Tansania will start on November, 12nd, and hence is too early for the new lens and the next will only be in early 2026...😊

(I hope Alex will get the lens in time for his next workshop and I am very curious what he will report)

My guess is that we won’t see a N100 20mm extension from Nauticam. The ones I have are from early 2023, which Nauticam supplied for the FCP prototype testing (the port lock only worked with that port). And if they had wanted to make them commercially they could have already. But I know that the dealers complain when the product range that they have to stock becomes too large - which I think is why these were never made commercially.

I have a good range of shorter N100 port extensions (top-bottom: Nauticam 20mm, Saga 16mm, Saga 20mm and Nauticam 20mm) which I find very useful when experimenting with unusual lens set ups, adapters, teleconverters, internal close up lenses etc. Just sharing the photo to show that solutions are possible, but likely to be a custom build - and therefore I’d expect the new port to be the easiest choice for most. 16mm was the shortest port extension that Saga could make for me in N100 mount.

Thank you for the valuable information. At least a 20mm N100 extension from Saga is available. Together with the 35mm N100 extension from Nauticam this should be perfect for people like me, who already have a N100 105 macroport and want to use the 100mm lens as it is and with the 1.4xTC.

MAYBE even your 16mm N100 extension may work with the 105 macroport for housing the pure lens (17,4mm is required for the 1.4xTC, but maybe the additional 1.4mm are covered by the 105 macroport?)? Can you please check this, when you have the lens?

Wolfgang

Ironically the 20mm was the extension for the FCP prototype, and the 35mm is the one needed for the production FCP.

Not sure when I will get the lens, though.
